Is vitamin D deficiency to blame for the asthma epidemic? In a study by Litonjua AA, Weiss ST, reported in the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, it was noted the decline in Vitamin D production (is) due to a number of reasons, and suggests, that “coupled with inadequate intake from foods and supplements this then leads to vitamin D deficiency…. Vitamin D intake in pregnant mothers reduces asthma risk by as much as 40% in children 3 to 5 years old. Providing adequate vitamin D supplementation in pregnancy may lead to significant decreases in asthma incidence in young children.” 230 Our adult protocols call for 600 iu of Vitamin D daily. |
